“The truth is rarely pure and never simple”
Enter the high society world of 1895 England where we meet two bachelors, the ever-charming
Algernon Moncrieff and his dependable friend John Worthing. However, don’t be fooled, these
two debonair singles also go by (or at least try to go by) ANOTHER name...That’s right, they
both lead double lives depending on whether they are in the country versus the town in order to
pursue the fashionable Gwendolyn Fairfax and the outspoken Cecily Cardew. They quickly find
out that having double lives is way more challenging than it should be. Disorderly hijinks ensue
such as fake deaths, multiple proposals, and the answer to why a BABY was left alone... in a
handbag... in the unfashionable... railway station! Algernon and John must face their detailed
web of lies, each other, and the powerhouse that is.. Lady Bracknell. This chaotic farce will have
you on the edge of your seat trying to guess what will happen next AND hinged over with
laughter.
Audience members will love diving into Oscar Wilde’s clever, witty dialogue and the deep
analysis & parody of 1895 Victorian England. While The Importance of Being Earnest has three
film adaptations, there is nothing quite like witnessing Wilde’s last penned play as it was
intended to be, as a comedy of manners live in front of you! We can’t wait to see you at the
show and remember you can never be two Earnest!
